First, in fairness, this isn't a hotel...it's a motel. That being said, the room was fine, and very clean. It's located a few miles away from the cluster of very touristy businesses near the denali park entrance, and just a short hop from the town of healy. There was a bar/grill/restaurant there, "the 49th state brewery" that served very decent food...it was more of real alaska than the stuff at the park entrance...which was filled mostly with cruise ship passengers in groups. I did attend a 'dinner-theatre' there at the opulent 'princess' hotel (as in princess cruises). The food was of marginal quality, and while the show, about denail was O.K., you only found out after paying and entering that photos were not allowed... That's always a deal breaker for me. Since the denail park hotel is located "in the country," it was nice and peaceful in the evening. When I take my wife to denali, i'd probably stay there again. I am an independent traveler...not a group or bus guy.
The selection of channels on the 'cable television' was very limited, and included only news channels that might fairly be called 'left- leaning' such as msnbc. I drove up myself from anchorage...the drive is about 230 miles, with a great view of denali, weather permit- ting. You will eventually run into healy, and the denali park, if you follow the highway...be advised that the word 'healy' never did appear on any road signs, and was hard to find on a map. You've got to follow your nose...and trust that it will be there. It's about ten miles north of the cluster of stuff around the park entrance...again, no signs, but have faith, and it'll be there.
For the area and the price we like to stay at the hotel. It is not a Princess lodge but it is a room with everything that we need to spend the night and be comfortable. Room was quiet, clean and comfortable.
The hotel is dark...the outside feels 50's motel but surprisingly the beds were good. It was clean except for under the beds....so with a little effort they could move to the next level up in motels. I would recommend it for good quality for the money.
Dark rooms. Need to vacuum under the beds.
Good location to Denali National Park. Clean and comfortable rooms at an economical price for the area.
We had a wonderful time! The location was very easy to find and the facilities and staff were perfect!
The hotel has very responsive staff and good accomodations. The room is clean and all appliences and plumbing in very good conditions.
No breakfest, disorderd enviroment
